GRC Professional : GRC Spring 2011
3535 memBeRshiP nFP working group If you’re in the not-for-profit sector, consider joining acI’s nfP working Group to share ideas. By JEAnnETTE sCOTT, llB CCp, rIsk & COMplIAnCE MAnAgEr, hEArT fOundATIOn The NFP Working Group is a discussion group formed for those ACI Members who are part of, or have an interest in, the NFP sector. Still in its infancy, inherently the group is a forum for members to share ideas and look for common solutions. Given that the NFP sector is both time and resource-poor, the group is keen to investigate development of, or access to, a tailored regulatory obligations register. From my own perspective I chose to participate in the discussion group for two reasons: firstly to ‘get’ – working on the ‘two heads are always smarter than one’ theory I saw an opportunity to draw upon the knowledge of others. My second reason was to ‘give’ – as a CCP I feel an obligation to involve myself in ACI activities to give back to the organisation that has given so much to me. Over a decade ago I moved from a purely legal role to a legal and compliance role. One of my first encounters w as w ith Ran dal Dennings who espoused the benefits of being an ACI member; I joined and haven’t looked back since. ACI is member driven and an invaluable resource for compliance professionals for a number of reasons. Compliance is still a poorly understood profession. Those within it understand its breadth of meaning, those outside hold largely varying opinions as to the nature and value of compliance. Aside from presenting a forum for members to share information and playing a leading role in education, accreditation and recognition, ACI has a far-reaching advocacy role that fosters understanding of the value of both compliance and compliance professionals.••• if you would like to join the aci nFp Working Group, please contact naomi Burley on +61 2 9290 1788 or email firstname.lastname@example.org STAY IN THE KNOW Have you seen the new GRC Professional enewsletter?
